After a long, strenuous week, I find myself looking forward to this weekend ahead of me. I have just gone through an ineptly talented artist some claim to be Filipino, corrupt generals, a number of dead fetuses and a handful of captured birds. I want so much to treat myself to a simple vacation, perhaps a long overdue trip to Baguio but my finances won’t allow me to do that now, not after paying all those bills, whew!
Which somehow gets me thinking, why is it that to become rich (as in overflowing with money) in this country, you only either have to be a corrupt official or become a famous artista sans talent or in Jasmine Trias’ case, she only had to be American.
Fact: Did you know that Jasmine Trias received a whopping P5.6-M for her McDonalds “Love ko ‘to” endorsement? This is of course aside from her projects with Smart and Herbench.
Another fact: The Anti-Money Laundering Council has asked the Court of Appeals for a freeze order on the dollar and peso accounts of beleaguered Armed Forces of the Philippines Major General Carlos Garcia. His assets include his dollar savings and time deposits from several banks, a $750,000-worth apartment in New York, another $765,000-worth condominium unit and an estate property in Ohio. Maj. Gen. Garcia receives a monthly income of only P35, 000.
Knowing all these makes it all the more depressing knowing fully well the sorry state of our workers, people who work their asses off with dignity.
