Filipina actress and environmentalist Chin Chin Gutierrez is featured as a mermaid in a recently released pro-vegetarian advertisement of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Dubbed as “Try to Relate to Who Is on Your Plate,†the ad encourages us to stop eating fishes and try the vegetarian life.
Photographer Giampiero Gastaldi took the picture showing Chin Chin on the sea floor. Her mermaid costume was designed by Indian designer na si Ashley Rebello.
Chin Chin asks us to leave the fishes alone and let them live in their home, the sea. Fishes are friends, not foods, Chin Chin says.

Mmmm… nicely done campaign, but I’m still a bit too conscious of PETA’s failings to be truly convinced by their message.
maybe PETA should also try to relate who is on their plate when they eat veggies. Don’t they think that veggies have feelings too? Before long we won’t have anything to eat if we go by their logic. There’s plenty of scientific studies that show how plants respond to bad things done to them 🙂
