Pacquiao for President

Just the other day, we passed by this considerably sized poster of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao near EDSA. It was one of those trapos put up, supposedly to honor someone but is actually propaganda for their own gain. Anyway, Julian and I got to talk about how a boxing match can take the people’s minds off politics and the looming fear of additional taxes. But more than that, I thought, this big hoopla over Pacquiao only affirms this unshakably scary truth about our society. This Messiahnic complex we have.

We’ve been looking for person/s we could look up to and who would change our rotten lives. We’ve been looking for the one for too long that it’s gotten tired already. Because in the rational scheme of things, the one does not exist.

Maybe it’s just me but I’m not waiting for Pacquiao to run for president.

Pacquiao Wins

Here’s a bit of good news that brings a feeling of unity for our nation divided by the on-going political crisis:

As soon as I woke up this noon, I learned from Oriah that Manny Pacquiao won his boxing match against his Mexican opponent Hector Velazquez.

Writer: Noel Albano, PRID

From the House of Representatives website

(UPDATE) After the longest marathon session in the post-war history of the Philippine legislature, the House of Representatives affirmed Tuesday the Justice committee report dismissing all three complaints to impeach President Arroyo.

The roll-call vote, which commenced at about 3:40 a.m. and took all of thirteen hours to complete, was 158 in favor and 51 against with six (6) abstentions.

Speaker Jose de Venecia and senior House leaders immediately called for a “period of healing and reconciliation” and urged Filipinos to put behind a divisive issue that has threatened to stir more political unrest and stall economic growth.

Unity Statement of Bukluran para sa Katotohanan

If you agree with the statement below, please post this on your blog.

Statement of Unity
Bukluran Para sa Katotohanan

We come from all walks of life, from different political, cultural, and economic persuasions, different points of view. But in diversity, we find a cause for unity. That cause for unity is our common objective to secure the truth.

We all seek the truth. We want the truth to come out. And yet every means for seeking the truth has been frustrated; every avenue for arriving at the truth has been blocked; and every opportunity to find the truth is being closed.

A united RIO Arroyo movement?

Last night’s prayer rally at La Salle Greenhills should make President Gloria nervous–although I dobut if her smugness would allow it. It was the first time the fragmented anti-Arroyo groups and personalities came together: Cory Aquino, Susan Roces and the pro-Erap forces, Bro. Eddie Villanueva, the divided Left (Satur Ocampo and Etta Rosales), the NGOs, and other People Power people. Even former Vice President Teofisto Guingona, who just resigned as ambassador to China, was there.

This happened after the pro-administration solons in the House of Representathieves killed the impeachment complaints against their boss. Are we seeing the beginning of a united resign-impeach-oust Arroyo movement similar to the one that almost dragged Estrada out of Malacanan?
